New Generation of XRackPro2 Server Racks Introduced

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- GizMac Accessories, leading manufacturer of innovative electronic equipment racks that reduce noise, introduces the second generation of the XRackPro2 noise reducing server racks.

In addition to reducing noise up to 80%, the new XRackPro2 features an air filtration system. The air filtration provides cleaner air into the enclosure and ultimately into the computer and other electronic equipment located inside. The controlled airflow of the XRackPro2 aids cooling, improves noise reduction and allows for an air filtering system to function.

"Cleaner air means cleaner equipment; cleaner equipment means reduced maintenance and less down time," says Ken Vitto, Director of Marketing for GizMac Accessories. "We are excited to have developed air filtration for the second generation XRackPro2, some companies will buy the new XRackPro for the filtering alone and the noise reduction will be an added benefit."

Filters used in the XRackPro2 are custom made and particularly suited for this application.

Film imagines bond linking heiress, butler

Bernard and Doris is an unusual romance about a modern pauper and princess.

The HBO movie, starring Ralph Fiennes and Susan Sarandon, will premiere tonight.

The premium service describes the story as an "imagined relationship" between two real-life characters: Irish butler Bernard Lafferty and billionaire tobacco heiress Doris Duke, who hired him in 1987.

In the enchanting, bittersweet dual portrait, the relationship is intimate yet conflicted, racked by co-dependency. Doris is a demanding, fast-living grande dame. Bernard is a tormented gay man from humble origins to whom Doris becomes an obsession.

Director Bob Balaban says he liked the story by screenwriter Hugh Costello, "and when Susan became interested and Ralph jumped aboard, it didn't occur to me not to do it."

The film -- shot in 20 days at a century-old estate with 300 acres of gardens and a 23-room mansion on New York's Long Island -- never hints at penny-pinching, although Balaban says it was made on a bare-bones $500,000 budget.

Automated Killer Robots ‘Threat to Humanity’: Expert

Increasingly autonomous, gun-totting robots developed for warfare could easily fall into the hands of terrorists and may one day unleash a robot arms race, a top expert on artificial intelligence told AFP.

"They pose a threat to humanity," said University of Sheffield professor Noel Sharkey ahead of a keynote address Wednesday before Britain's Royal United Services Institute.

Intelligent machines deployed on battlefields around the world — from mobile grenade launchers to rocket-firing drones — can already identify and lock onto targets without human help.

There are more than 4,000 US military robots on the ground in Iraq, as well as unmanned aircraft that have clocked hundreds of thousands of flight hours.

The first three armed combat robots fitted with large-caliber machine guns deployed to Iraq last summer, manufactured by US arms maker Foster-Miller, proved so successful that 80 more are on order, said Sharkey.

Asciano Declares $71m Loss, But Positive On Outlook

Asciano said the net loss reflected a number of special items relating to the demerger of Asciano from Toll Holdings, and the restructure of its grain business.Following its spin-off from Toll Holdings in June 2007, Asciano said revenue from ordinary activities rose 3.9% to $1.5 billion from a proforma $1.45 billion. Its earnings before interest and tax rose 21% to $236,000.Commenting on the results, Asciano managing director Mark Rowsthorn said, "The growth in underlying earnings and the associated improvement in margins reflect a strong half-year for Asciano.Asciano was positive in respect to its outlook and said it plans to close down its grain business."Asciano has commenced the downsizing program in our grain business. While discussions continue with the grain industry, in the absence of volume risk being mitigated through the introduction of take-or-pay contract, Asciano will close the business," Rowsthorn said. The company was also positive in respect to its medium to longer term outlook:"Our diverse business base, and particularly our exposure to growing commodity exports, containerised and motor vehicle imports, and domestic freight, should see Asciano continue to generate organic EBITDA growth in the range of 10% to 15% per annum over the longer term," Rowsthorn added. The Melbourne-based company was confident about its debt position which has been a source of speculation for the market. It reported a total outstanding bank debt of $4.9 billion, an "appropriate level given Asciano's underlying assets and cashflow"."Following recent extensions to Asciano's short-term facilities, Asciano now has no debt maturing until 2009, and 92% of Asciano's total outstanding debt matures during or after May 2010," the company said."Asciano has existing interest rate hedges in place today equivalent to 70% of its outstanding debt, with a weighted average maturity of hedges of 3.5 years," it added. The group declared an interim distribution of 23 cents per share. Its shares have more than halved from the high of $11.64 in late June which was reached after its spin-off from Toll Holdings in the wake of the Patrick takeover.Rowsthorn commented the acquisition of Patrick Ports businesses has paid dividends."Our Patrick Ports businesses have continued to trade well during the period.

Sanyo's High-End Camcorder Boxes You In

Sometimes things just don't work out the way they're supposed to. Take, for example, this review of Sanyo'sSANYY Xacti HD 1000 digital movie camera. I brought it along with me to test under real working conditions -- at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, last month. The idea was that my producer-cinematographer Dee Robinson would shoot me with his professional Panasonic camera (with a Leica lens) -- and I would shoot him shooting me using the Sanyo HD1000. Both of us would shoot in full HD. In the Sanyo's case, that means 1920 by 1080 pixels. The Panasonic was also set at full 1080i. The plan was for Dee to edit everything together when we got home. Notice I wrote that in the past tense. That's because we couldn't edit anything together. Actually, we couldn't even see the Sanyo's video on any of our AppleAAPL Mac or Windows computers.
