| WHS student enjoying time as sideline reporter
A position as a High School Playbook sideline reporter for KOCO News Channel 5 has offered a local teen opportunities to gain experience and improve skills, which could prove valuable as she prepares for college and a career.Woodward junior Mallory Ross, 17, said she has always had an interest in film – an interest that "started out as a hobby.""My cousins and I would make these stupid movies over holidays," she said. But soon Ross began to develop her skills and volunteered her talents to help her church make children's music videos. When her computer teacher Bryan Stephenson suggested she apply for the sideline reporter position, where she would get to film sporting events, Ross said she figured it was worth a shot. She filled out an application one day last and received a call from the television station the next day inviting her to interview.Taking time out from her Thanksgiving break, she went to Oklahoma City and interviewed with some of the station members, including sports reporter Mark Rodgers."It was my first formal interview, so I was a little nervous," Ross said.
Microsoft moves deeper into the software services arena
Microsoft also is working on a bundle of Microsoft-hosted business services, which it is calling its Business Productivity Online Suite. That bundle will include Microsoft-hosted Exchange, SharePoint, OCS and Live Meeting. Microsoft has added a "provisioning layer" to Exchange and SharePoint to make them multi-tenant-ready, explained Eron Kelly, Director of Product Management for Business Online Services. And it is adding a new, per-user license subscription as a new pricing option for the forthcoming release of its Microsoft Online wares. Microsoft is going to allow customers who have purchased licenses for Microsoft's Exchange and SharePoint Server software (not the Microsoft-hosted versions of these products) to trade-in license credits for Microsoft Online managed service versions of these products; or a mix of on-premise and Microsoft-hosted versions.

G. Loves spreads the love
And when these three bands came out in the early nineties, there was no else around the world doing that much live hip-hop. And all these three bands came out of like a 20-block radius, so I think it's just kind of interesting. And the thing about Philly is it's just like a founding town of hip-hop. You know, some of the first rappers were all out of New York and Philly. Then because Philly is so integrated, it's allowed a lot of music to creep in to it. It has also allowed white boys like me, who are musicians, to be able to rap for some reason. I don't know, to me it's really interesting. Some of the first live hip-hop bands came out of Philly so that to me says something about the town. I'm not quite sure what it is but I wrote it in a rap and it went like this, “white boys rapping, black kids playing rock." That one line kind of sums up everything that can happen in Philly.
Smaller, Thinner, Lighter, Cooler Notebooks
Alienware's Area-51 m9750 offers a 64 GB SSD in addition to a 320 GB hard drive. There are a few gotchas with this option. Since these devices are new, they may possess a few more flaws than hard disk drives. Also at the moment, this option is expensive, adding a few hundred dollars to a notebook's list price. Pricing is expected to drop as the number of laptops with this feature rises. In addition to being more powerful, the portable devices are following the lead of cell phone vendors and becoming fashion statements. As the year closed, Micro-Star International announced its PR200 YA Edition line, which is available in Denim Blue, Coral Pink and Wasabi Green. Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) is another vendor selling notebooks -- including its 15.4-Inch Inspiron notebooks -- in multiple bright hues.
U.S., local immigration teamwork is hailed
The rapid growth of a little-known program that teams federal agents with local authorities to identify and deport jailed immigrants is being embraced as a way to reduce crime and illegal immigration simultaneously. The expansion has been felt throughout South Central Texas, with 22 more Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents added to the area last year. The Travis County Sheriff's Department approved an ICE request last month to open an office at its lockup. A similar acceleration is planned for Bexar County Jail, which ICE agents already visit daily. Under the Criminal Alien Program, the agents check inmates identified by jail administrators as foreign nationals. Those who are not legally in the country — a determination that only federal agents can make — receive "detainers," meaning ICE agents have one day after their release date to take them into federal custody once their criminal cases are resolved.
Golden Oldies: Using Digital Recording to Capture History
But I can still hear him tell his stories, thanks to a recording. My dad and Uncle Dave—both high school history teachers—had the foresight to have my grandfather recount his experiences before an old reel-to-reel tape recorder one Christmas years ago. They logged six hours of stories—of Grandpa’s youth in Germany, how he survived the muddy trenches of World War I as a German marine, his decision to leave his family behind and immigrate to America, and how the sight of the Statue of Liberty brought him to tears. This family treasure has been transferred to digital format, ensuring that the chronicle of his life will be passed on to future generations. Everyone has a story, and story is essentially at its core history. My grandfather led an incredible life, but it will never be the focus of a History Channel documentary or grab the attention of Ken Burns.
HTC TyTN II (P4550 Kaiser) Review
The HTC TyTN was considered to be at launch the best Pocket PC on the market. Crammed with lots of features, it made you think there could not be anything more to desire from a PDA. HSDPA connectivity, big screen, sliding keyboard, two cameras, fast processor made the TyTN a hit. And now HTC has come with an improved version which includes all of the features of its predecessor and even more. The most noticeable additions are GPS, which should get rid of the need for an external GPS unit, an OS upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 of course, a 3 megapixel camera and other improvements you are about to find out. The device was initially announced under the codename Kaiser and now it is known as the HTC TyTN II (P4550). Mobile operators have already started to sell rebranded versions under different names, such as MDA Vario III from T-Mobile and AT&T Tilt 8925.
